Also the thickness, elastic modulus, the hardness, and the shear strength (adhesion strength) of coating were considered in the analysis. In this paper, therefore, the finite element analysis concerning the effect of surface texture of substrate on the local damage of hard coating under sliding contact was carried out. The surface texture of the substrate is very important for making a high quality coating for friction and wear applications, it has been discovered experimentally that the local damage (cracking, wear and delamination) of coating under sliding contact depends on the surface texture of substrate.
